The Ramadan Garden has always been a lush oasis on the lawn, but its venue carries a name the concept had never used: Janat Al Bahar, the Garden of the Sea. This year took its cue from the shoreline. Sun-washed creams, woven cane and knotted natural fibres drawn from the coast’s arish and pearling traditions, greenery as accent, a simpler handcrafted expression closer to the spirit of the month. Rose-gold mashrabiya pillar lanterns, dark ceramic vases of dried palm and pampas, and tablescapes of patterned runners with low cream bowls of blush and ivory blooms flanked by amber candlelight set the palette.
Lantern trees of woven rattan shades and macramé drops rising from beds of dried palm lined the approach, and at the centre of the tent a lantern tree bench with a Ramadan moon gave guests a place to sit and the night its photo. Two majlis styles, one open with rattan panelling and billowing fabric ceilings, one closed with a central entrance, sat alongside circular banquettes anchored by their own rose-gold lantern structures. A tiered soup station on a mashrabiya base, dessert and dinner buffets backed by a rose-gold striped wall, and a framed photo moment with the Burj Al Arab as hero completed the garden. Much of it was refitted from the New Year’s Eve build, platinum turned to rose gold, pearls to woven cane, one evening’s structures earning a second life in another.
