The theme, Platinum and Pearls, works on two levels. The pearl speaks to place, the Gulf’s own treasure, carried through the night in nacre and iridescence. Platinum speaks to the calibre of guest, the metal a jeweller reaches for when a stone earns its finest setting. Guests arrived along a buggy path lined with pearl fountains, sprays of platinum crowned with pearlescent bulbs and dripping with pearl strings, then passed through a threshold entrance beneath a large overhead fountain into twin registration counters with scalloped backdrops and inset pearl accents.
Inside, two photo walls gave the evening its shareable moments, a platinum wave accented in pearl and a fanned backdrop with a single pearl hero. Scalloped service bars, dinner buffets and double-sided dessert counters each carried a lit pearl at their centre with illuminated plate recesses, while tables were lit from within by glass cylinders of water and crushed iridescent foil topped with white florals and loose pearls on mirrored platters. The stage took its form from the sweep of waves and the polish of pearls: curved low-rise wave walls and stepped decking for the band and dancers, a clamshell DJ booth anchoring the platform, a centred LED screen with LED columns rising either side, and two satellite stages reaching into the seating so the performance was never far from any table.
