XDubai staged the region’s first and largest yoga festival on Burj Park Island, a green oasis beneath the Burj Khalifa, following in the footsteps of Wanderlust and Yoga-Festival Berlin. The design had one job: show the world how Dubai hosts a yoga festival. The answer was subtle luxury infused with low-impact materials, natural finishes and textures, a chic blend of the indulgent tropical holiday and the recycled, repurposed feel of pallet-built furniture and structures.
To open the festival, more than a kilometre of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard was closed so 10,000 yogis could take a morning session together beneath the tower, and the festival grounds then held classes, talks and markets across the island for the rest of the weekend. Dubai at its most unexpected, and at its most itself.
